Trick Your Kids Into Eating Healthy

The most important thing to any parent is that their kids are healthy and happy.

But any parent knows that sometimes making sure your kids eat healthily, is easier said than done. More often than not, getting your kids to eat their veggies can be a real battle. After all, kids are naturally drawn to sugary sweets.

And it doesn’t get any easier when every time we turn around there are sugary treats everywhere. They are being advertised on the TV, handed out at parties and social gatherings, and are on the shelves of every store we go to. And while we understand that this is unhealthy for our children, many of us give in, afraid of our child being unhappy and left out. But in the end, it is our job to make sure that our kids are filling their bodies with nutrients that they need to keep them healthy now and in the future, rather than just trying to make them happy in the short-term.

But this doesn’t have to be the case.

Our kids can still feel like they are getting the same types of goods without the unhealthy, processed and artificial ingredients that are found in many of kid’s favorite treats.

The key with these snacks is to provide a healthier alternative to a snack or treat, rather than something that should be eaten all the time. Just as with adults and the consumption of treats, the key here is in moderation.

Here are a few healthier alternatives to our kid’s favorite treats.

  • 2 cups almond flour
  • 1/8 tsp Celtic sea salt
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup palm shortening
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar for dipping
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon for dipping

  • Preheat your oven to 350º F.
  • Combine your almond flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon together in a food processor, pulsing in the shortening, honey, and applesauce.
  • Scoop 1 tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball.
  • Mix together the coconut sugar and ground cinnamon for dipping in a bowl.
  • Dip each ball of dough into the water and roll into the dipping mixture.
  • Place parchment paper onto a baking sheet and add your dough balls onto the sheet, flattening each ball with your palm.
  • Bake for 7-9 minutes. Remove them from oven and let cool.

  • 1 avocado
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Nuts

  • Peel the avocado and remove the pit
  • Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth and no avocado clumps remain
  • Top with your favorite crushed nuts (almonds, walnuts, etc) and serve

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp organic, unsweetened dark cacao chips
  • 2 tbsp plain greek yogurt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 scoop Organic Vegan Protein Superfood
  • 1 scoop Detox Organics
  • 1 tbsp coconut or almond flour
  • 1 tbsp chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp chopped walnuts

  • Melt butter and chocolate chips in a coffee mug in the microwave for 30 seconds.
  • Stir the melted mixture then add yogurt.
  • After yogurt is mixed to cool the butter, add one egg and stir until combined.
  • Next add protein, flour, salt, and stir until combined.
  • Add chocolate chips and walnuts then stir once more.
  • Place mug in microwave and cook on high for one minute.
  • Take out and give one last stir.
  • Let rest for another minute or two.

Prep/cook time: 5 minutes

Chocolate Milk: If you haven’t heard of the new superfood supplement, Detox Organics, then you need to check it out! This is a greens supplement that is FULL of healthy veggies, such as wheat grass, spinach, broccoli, kale, and so much more. The trick is that it tastes like chocolate! Mix 1 scoop with 8 oz of almond milk and serve it up as a healthy treat. It tastes just like Nesquick!

You can also use it many different recipes that call for chocolate. If you’re going to serve something chocolatey, why not sneak the greens into it?

Here are some tips to getting your kids to eat healthy meals:

  • Plan ahead: Plan your meals ahead of time. By planning ahead, you won’t be tempted to try and throw together something quick and simple just so that your kids get fed. Nobody plans to feed their children unhealthy food, but rather it is a byproduct of a busy life.
  • Include your children in the cooking process: I know, when making dinner the last thing you want is your kids getting in the way, but when you include your kids in the cooking process it makes them more interested in consuming something they helped create.
  • Be a role model: Our kids learn by watching us and trying to mimic the things we do. This is why it is important to not only feed our kids a healthy diet but to practice it ourselves and lead by example. When your kids constantly see you eating healthy, they will naturally follow suit. If you aren’t sure what it is you should be eating, check out our Custom Meal Plans and we can help you be that role model.
  • Introduce food slowly: If you are trying to make your kid eat a healthier food that they may not be used to and may even refuse to eat, begin by slowly introducing it. Add a little bit to their food and try to make it more appealing by making it more fun, such as explaining to them how their hero also eats that food.

Why not just let the kids enjoy “kid” foods?

We all know what it is like for people to be unhealthy and we also know that many times health issues, such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, and heart disease are a result of the foods that we consumed throughout our entire lives.

Being a parent isn’t just about making sure our kids are healthy and happy now, but it is also about creating good habits within our kids so that they grow up to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is our job to try and keep them healthy well into adulthood.

And so that one day they too may pass on their healthy habits to their children.

Teaching our kids healthy habits, so that they go on to lead healthy lives, is one of the greatest gifts we can give them. It is our obligation and responsibility to install these into our kids.

5 Amazing Health Benefits of Probiotics

We’ve done a lot of talks lately on gut and digestive health, and have mentioned probiotics in the past, but many of you have asked if you should be on one and what exactly they do.

Chances are, whether you’ve been at the health game for awhile, or are just starting down a healthier path in your life, you’ve most likely heard of probiotics. But, as I am finding out, most people don’t know exactly what they are or what they are used for. All they know is that they are good for you.

In this post, you’ll find out:

  • What probiotics are and how they can benefit your health
  • What the different strands of probiotics mean
  • How to know when you should start taking probiotics
  • Where you can find probiotics, in supplement and natural form

What Are Probiotics?

Your gut contains millions of bacteria that actually help to keep you healthy. When most people think of bacteria, they think of something that is bad make them sick, but this isn’t the case.

Along with the bad bacteria, your body also consists of good bacteria, mainly consisting of bacteroids and firmicutes, and these bacteria have been linked to overall health and even weight loss (1, 2).

Having enough good bacteria isn’t just about weight loss, though, as it also helps to improve digestion, your immune system, and can even destroy other organisms that are harmful and cause disease (3, 4).

An imbalance occurs when you have more bad bacteria than good bacteria in your gut. This can lead to a number of issues, including obesity, autoimmune disease and the rise of allergies (5).

There are several things that can impact the balance, or imbalance, of the good and bad bacteria found in your body, such as taking certain antibiotics, using antibacterial soap and cleaners, eating food that isn’t properly prepared, consuming excess sugar, stress and lack of sleep.

This is where probiotics come in handy.

Probiotics are live organisms, such as bacteria and yeast, that work in your body in conjunction with the bacteria that is already present to improve your health. This helps to balance out the good and bad bacteria in your body.

Your body already contains probiotics, as does many of the foods you may already be eating, but sometimes this isn’t enough.

What Kinds Of Probiotics Are There

Lactobacillus – This is the most common probiotic that you will find. It is the probiotic that is found in foods such as yogurt and different types of fermented food, such as sauerkraut. This type of probiotic is good for people who are lactose intolerant or are suffering from diarrhea. It is also good for people who are taking antibiotics that kill both good and bad bacteria, which allows your body to grow pathogenic bacteria that cause intestinal issues.

Bifidobacterium – This probiotic is good for people who are suffering from irritable bowel syndrome and other gastrointestinal disorders.

Why Should I Take a Probiotic?

  • Mental Health – Taking a probiotic can actually improve your mental health and some mental disorders. For example, studies have shown a link between probiotics and an improvement of depression, anxiety, autism, OCD, fatigue, and stress (6, 7, 8). A study in Brain, Behavior, and Immunity showed that people who took a probiotic over the span of 40 days felt happier in life (9). Some studies show that Lactobacillus could even help with mental issues and symptoms of chronic fatigue (10).
  • Immune System – Studies have found that using certain probiotics can reduce the occurrence of respiratory infections and urinary tract infections (11, 12, 13).
  • Fat Loss – Some probiotics can affect the way your body processes and stores fat, as well as how you burn calories (14, 15). A recent study in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition showed that people who took multiple species of probiotic lost the most amount of weight (16).
  • Allergies – A study in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that when people took a strand of probiotic called B. lactic, their allergies improved over an 8 week time with less pro-inflammatory markers. This happens because probiotics alter the permeability of the intestinal wall. This alteration can help to keep pro-inflammatory compounds from entering the bloodstream (17).
  • Digestive Health – Most importantly, probiotics can help with digestive issues and diseases, and can be effective for people in remission with ulcerative colitis, necrotizing enterocolitis and irritable bowel syndrome (181920).

Because your gut and digestion play such a large part in the way your body breaks down and absorbs nutrients, you can almost say that keeping up your digestive health can be one of the most important things you can do for your body.

Where Can I Get Probiotics?

You can get probiotics from many sources. They exist within many foods, such as sauerkraut, kimchi, specific yogurts, and certain cheeses.

You can also buy probiotic supplements with live organisms in it that are easy and convenient to take. Eating these foods every day can be difficult, as often they have a really strong flavor, but having your probiotic in supplement form is a more realistic way of making sure you are getting all the benefits and keeping your digestion running smoothly.

Using a probiotic can have a major impact on your mental health, digestive health, immune system and your ability to fight back against belly fat.

You can also help to support your digestive health by including superfoods to your diet.

Ingredients such as spinach, kale, broccoli, spirulina, goji berry, alfalfa, wheat grass, and acai, just to name a few, all are beneficial to your digestive and overall health. With so many different superfoods, it can be difficult to be able to get them all in and reap all the benefits.

Like with probiotics, you don’t have to eat these things every day, but rather you can take a daily supplement, such as Detox Organics. This is great if you want to be able to get in a full serving of superfoods every day and still have it taste amazing. Many superfoods can have a strong taste, so this chocolate supplement will not only satisfy a sweet tooth, but you will get almost 30 different certified organic fruits, vegetables, herbs and plants in every serving.

How to Make Easy Probiotic Tonics at Home

Every grocery store is touting shiny new bottles of fermented drinks now. It seems like there are new brands popping up everywhere. This is great because probiotics in fermented foods are so good for your health. In fact, probiotics help your body in so many ways, it’s important to incorporate them into your diet.

But with these convenient grab-and-go bottles comes the grab and go prices. If you have wanted to get these drinks, but cringe at spending tons of money on them, then you might just want to make a probiotic drink for yourself from home! You don’t have to spend a ton of money for a bottle that won’t last you longer than one car ride.

Making your own is a fun, hands-on way, of getting in touch with your health. Plus, you can see just what goes into these drinks and change them to your liking. Here are two fun recipes for you to try at home. The first one is homemade fermented orange juice, perfect for any breakfast.

Homemade Fermented OJfermented-orange-juice

  1. Orange Juice, fresh squeezed (from actual oranges – no juice)
  2. 1/2 tsp Culture Starter
  3. Filtered water
  4. Sea Salt

  1. Use a 1-quart mason jar for the fermenting process.
  2. Add around 2 1/2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice.
  3. Mix in 1/2 tsp culture starter and just a pinch of salt.
  4. Fill with approximately 1 cup room temperature filtered water, until there is just 1 inch or so of headspace from the top of the jar.
  5. Cover this tightly and then shake before setting it aside in a room temperature place for about 48 hours. (Sometimes depending on your house, fermentation can happen in as little as 24 hours.)
  6. Put in the refrigerator and let chill. Then enjoy your drink.
  7. Slowly open containers because gasses build up as foods ferment.

These ingredients can all be found at your grocery store. The second recipe can be made on a hot day and enjoyed with friends because we just took refreshing lemonade to a whole new level.

Homemade Probiotic Lemon/Limeade

  1. screen-shot-2016-12-01-at-1-24-31-pm1.5 C water
  2. 1/2 C maple syrup/honey
  3. 1 serving of stevia
  4. 1.5 C strawberries
  5. 1.5 C fresh lime juice (about 10-12 limes)
  6. 4 C unflavored kombucha

  1. Bring your water, berries, and sweetener to pan to simmer and cook until soft (about 10 minutes).
  2. While your berries cook, squeeze limes and limes to make juice.
  3. Once soft, blend berries in a small food processor until liquid.
  4. Add lime juice and berries together and place in the refrigerator until cool. Add kombucha right before you’re ready to consume or serve your refreshing drink. You can always add more stevia if it is too tart.

This recipe is so delicious and you can buy a big bottle of the kombucha which is always cheaper than that smaller take and go bottles. This recipe is perfect for multiple servings or sharing with friends.

Don’t be intimidated by making your own fermented, probiotic-rich drinks. People have been making fermented foods at home for centuries. And now you can make your own with just a few simple ingredients.

Taking care of your gut is important, and a full-time job. The foods you eat greatly affect your digestive health. That’s why fermented foods are so important to incorporate into your diet. In fact, these types of foods help your body stay healthy enough to absorb other foods and supplements you consume. Superfoods like Detox Organics help heal your gut on a daily basis, along with probiotics, and help you get the most of the foods you eat every single day.

Is your body FILLED with toxins?

Are You Toxic?

If you remember my last detox blog, I talked about what a detox is and why you should be doing it. Now, I want to talk to you about how you can go about eliminating those toxins from your body and how you don’t store body fat when doing so.

Our bodies get filled with toxins by the foods and medications we consume, products we use and through our environment, such as the pollutants in the air that we breathe. At some point, our body tells us that we need a break from all of this and we need to eliminate those toxins and rejuvenate.

In Chinese medicine, they state that the liver gets clogged, which then leads to disease, whether it be an autoimmune disease, lymphatic issues, meaning your skin, which is also your body’s largest organ and what you will normally detox through. As you take in toxins, they accumulate in your body and get into your bloodstream. It is important to get these toxins out.

The number one sign that people will see showing they are toxic is their inability to lose weight. If you are on a Custom Meal Plan and are constantly working out, but you aren’t seeing any results, being toxic is probably the number one reason.

The second biggest sign of being toxic is chronic fatigue. When you think of chronic fatigue, you think of being tired all the time and waking up tired after having 8 hours of sleep. That is not normal and is a major signal that you have a toxic liver.

Although there are many signs of being toxic, such as muscle aches, joint pains, headaches or sinus issues, trouble with weight loss and chronic fatigue are the two biggest signs that you will see. Everything that you eat and drink is filtered through your liver and your kidneys and if you are not drinking enough water or you are not supplying your body with adequate vitamins and minerals, this is where everything builds up and becomes super toxic.

Detoxing is something that you should be doing on a daily basis, not just something you do once for a week. There are several things that you can do to detoxify yourself that is not nutrition based. The first way is through exercising intensely and sweating the toxins out. You can also dry brush and try different herbs and remedies.

Top Foods to Remove Toxins:

  • Apples
  • Asparagus
  • Artichokes
  • Beets
  • Milk Thistle
  • Turmeric
  • Alpha lipoic acid
  • Burdock tea
  • Dandelion root
  • Vitamin E
  • Zinc
  • Selenium

All of these things are great to use for cleansing. This is why we suggest using Detox Organics with on our 7 Day Detox Drop.

The idea is to lessen your toxic load by pulling out the toxins from your body, removing the toxins and adding in different herbs, supplements, and whole foods. If you are on the 7 Day Detox Drop, I wouldn’t recommend eating anything outside of what is in the program unless it was raw veggies. The point is to detox, so be careful not to add in anything you aren’t supposed to add. When you buy the 7 Day Detox Drop, you receive all of the information that you will need to complete the program.

Here is what you get when you purchase the 7 Day Detox Drop:

  • Jumpstart – In this book, we talk about what a detox is, why it is important and how to go about using the program.
  • Macro List – This will tell you all of the nutritional information of the food that you will be eating.
  • Grocery Guide – This will give you a list of what food you will need for each phase, as well as how much you will need to purchase.
  • Recipe Guide – This guide will provide all of the recipes you will need throughout the detox. Take note that this book is full of whole foods and real meals, not just juices.

As mentioned, Organic Vegan Protein Superfood and Detox Organics are made from all natural ingredients that are clean and great while you are cleansing.

Detoxing is something that everyone should be doing as almost everyone is toxic. It is also something that you should be doing if you are trying to lose weight or can’t get rid of that belly fat. Again, detoxing isn’t something that you do once, but a change in lifestyle, so get started now.

What Supplements Are Really Worth Taking?

Curious to know what supplements are REALLY worth your money? One of the most common questions I get asked is about supplementation. While we don’t need supplementation, certain supplements can really be beneficial to our overall health by helping our bodies run more efficiently, whether that be with digestion, exercise performance, or detoxification, just to name a few.

This list provided here should give an insight on the supplements that I recommend and what I think is really worth taking.

Health-Promoting Supplements:

Okay, first we’re going to talk about the products I believe will support proper health. By nature, they will also support your performance and body composition goals because both of these are easier to achieve when you’re healthy.

These are all natural products that will work with your body, rather than against it.

  • Organic Vegan Protein

First, we have organic vegan protein.  Now, I always recommend you get as much of your nutrients from real food whenever possible. But, that said, for those who have higher protein requirements, this can be a challenge.

A protein supplement can be helpful. This is the most natural and healthy option available. This is why I stick with Mfit’s Organic Vegan Protein Superfood as my protein powder of choice. The reason this one is better is that it is made with few ingredients. And all the ingredients are natural.

Consuming protein will help you enhance your peak performance and endurance, recover from your workout faster, and it supports muscle development. It will help you burn calories throughout your workout and get you to your goals faster, whether you are trying to put on lean muscle or lose the extra fat (1, 23, 4).

Aim for one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight each day as a starting point. Realize if you are training hard, you may need even more.

  • Krill Oil

Next, we have krill oil.  All of us need this.  It really is that necessary.  Krill oil provides us with omega-3 fats, which have an endless list of health benefits.  Realize that if you do eat a lot of fatty fish, especially salmon, you may not need to supplement as much as others, but here in the US, the majority of users could really benefit from taking an omega-3 supplement.

One of the most widely known effects krill oil is the positive effect it has on hyperlipidemia, otherwise known as high blood pressure [5, 6].

For a long time, krill oil has been the go-to, but today krill oil is gaining in popularity, and for good reason!

  • Vitamin D

Another key vitamin – vitamin D is also important for overall health. Unless you get a lot of direct sunlight (the best natural way to get vitamin D), you will need to supplement.

Read the label and take the dosage indicated.

  • Multi-Vitamin

Again, while you should strive to get all your nutrients from real food, having a good multi-vitamin for backup support is always a wise decision.

Just do be sure to get a quality product here. Don’t pick up that bottle of Centrum that you find in the grocery store. Get a product that’s natural and of high quality.

  • Greens Blend

For those of you who really struggle to get in enough vegetables in your daily diet, a greens blend such as Detox Organics is also a smart choice.  This will give you the antioxidant support you need to promote superior health.

A great greens supplement, like Detox Organics, will help your body with its digestion process and its ability to rid the body of waste. Your body naturally detoxes, but using the right supplement will help give your body a boost and help it function better.

⚠️ Are you ready to prevent cravings, reduce appetite, and beat the bloat?

Join 225,000+ fans all over the world who trust Detox Organics to prevent food cravings & finally eliminate stubborn fat.

  • Probiotic

Finally, the last health promotion supplement I recommend you consider is a probiotic, a supplement that has so many health benefits. This will help to keep your digestive system in proper working order and ensure that you are making use of all the foods you eat as best as possible.

Your gut contains millions of bacteria that actually help to keep you healthy. When most people think of bacteria, they think of something that is bad make them sick, but this isn’t the case.

Along with the bad bacteria, your body also consists of good bacteria, mainly consisting of bacteroids and firmicutes, and these bacteria have been linked to overall health and even weight loss (7, 8).

Performance Enhancing Supplements:

  • BCAAs

BCAAs are also a wise idea to consider and will help to delay the onset of fatigue. If you find you’re running out of energy early on in your workouts, BCAAs can help.

Drinking BCAAs increases the rate of perceived exertion, meaning you can go stronger, faster, longer and more efficient while you are working out. This is why I recommend you taking them inter-workout if you were to only take them one time once a day [9].

Drinking BCAAs can also help you recover faster after you finish your workout. Muscle go through a process of repair and recovery after use, especially after an intense training session and drinking BCAAs can help your muscles through this recovery process [10].

I’d recommend starting around 7.5 grams per day, however, if you are training hard, you can take this up to 10-15 grams per day. Again, Morellifit Nutrition BCAAs are top of the line and made with 100% all natural ingredients.

  • Caffeine

Finally, you might wonder about fat burners. Should you use one?

I would say no.  Firmly. Fat burners will mess you up if you aren’t careful and are not natural for the body at all.

Need an energy boost? Go for a cup of coffee instead. Caffeine is the most under-rated fat burner out there and you can get it right from your coffee pot. No fancy supplement needed.

Coffee has been around for thousands of years for that boost of energy and concentration, but it can also help you in the gym and support your weight loss efforts. Besides an energy boost, caffeine in studies has shown to increase fat burning in the body. Along with increased fat burning, it can break down fat as well. Plus, the effects of caffeine can last up to 6 hours after ingestion which means these fat burning benefits last a while. After a hard work out caffeine has been shown to decrease post-workout pain by up to 46% (1112, 13).

⚡ Related: Learn How Caffein Can Help You Burn Fat

There’s no need to turn to a fat burner in my opinion, so I’d recommend you stay away.

So there you have my line-up of supplement recommendations. Stick to these and you can feel confident you’re hard-earned dollars are being put to good use.

Bonus: SHOULD You Be Taking Supplements?

As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, nobody needs to be taking supplements, but they can be extremely beneficial to your overall health. Because of this, I would recommend that people learn what it is that the different supplements do and assess which ones they would benefit from.

Whether you are looking to build lean muscle, lose fat, or just maintain a healthy lifestyle, there are supplements that could greatly improve our lifestyles.

With a solid diet, a structured workout routine and a lot of dedication, you can achieve your goals. But, if you really want to ramp up your results, and not only get that extra 5% boost but get there quicker, too – this is where supplements come in.

With a highly-efficient workout plan such as HIIT MAX™ that focuses on burning as many calories in a single, short session as possible, and has an emphasis on pushing you to your limits, so you never hit a plateau – I’d say supplements become more important.
